- Sip on ice cold water throughout the day to help you stay cool and hydrated. Don’t wait until you are thirsty to drink.
- Use cooling products e.g. a cool pack/ damp cloth to place on your neck and other pressure points on your body to help core temperature remain neutral.
- Eat light – Instead of big heavy meals, go for smaller, lighter dinners that are easier to metabolise. It takes a lot more energy for your body to break down protein than fats and carbs so choose fruits, vegetables and legumes for optimal cool potential.
- Cool a room by hanging a wet sheet in front of an open window. The breeze blowing in will quickly bring down the room’s temperature.
- Have a cold shower to cool your body without needing to switch the air-conditioner on.
- If you are exercising, workout in the mornings or evening or break your exercise up into smaller chunks. Why not try doing 10 minutes of exercise at 3-5 different times of day.
- Salty snacks – sometimes water isn’t enough to replace the loss of salt when we sweat. Snacks such as olives, salted nuts and bananas are a great way to replenish the loss of sodium through sweat.
- Don’t use a stove or oven to cook – it will make you are your house much hotter
- Wear loose, lightweight, light-coloured clothing. Cotton fabrics are also more breathable and will help keep you cooler.
- Tie up your hair if it’s long.
